Hi Dear Reader!
How have you been?
We had a great week in the Bock household. A couple of weeks ago, Hubby and I were looking at the schedule and discussing if we should take some time off. We came across last week in our paper planner and it didn’t have anything on it. No appointments. No meetings. Nothing. We looked at each other and drew a red line through all of the days.
We took a vacation at home. It was so nice and relaxing. We didn’t have any plans. We hung out, rode our horses, played with the kids, and baked lots of cookies. Then on Friday, my parents came for the weekend. It was supposed to be our town’s summer festival with food trucks, bounce houses, and a farmer’s market. The best part is that the Little Professor bookstore sets up tables in the street with inexpensive ex-library books. The owner buys semis of ex-library books and then once a year he sets them out to sell at the festival. My mom is just as big of a bookworm as I am so we planned to got to his tables and shop. It is an exciting time as I never knew what I would find. The books were usually hardcovers and in really good shape so they would be a joy to add to my collection.
Except.
It rained, like thunder and lightening with flood warnings rained. He didn’t set out his treasure trove of books. We didn’t go to the festival as everyone, except the kids, voted that it wouldn’t be very much fun to dodge thunderstorms.
Instead, we headed to our local library who was having a dollar/paperbag book sale. The girls stayed with Hubby in the children’s section. Our library has huge area for them to play and discover things.
My mom and I browsed and filled our paperbags with books. My dad carried my mom’s for her like the gentleman he is. It was fun. We were standing in line to hand over our dollar bills to the librarian when my mom leaned over and looked into my bag. She smiled and said, “I have my mysteries and you and your romances.” We laughed. And I did. My bag was full of paperback romances with the odd mystery that she or my dad sneaked in. Then she said, “We should be good for a week or two.” And that is the truth.
What’s your favorite part about shopping for books? Do you go to used book sales?
This week I have an online book sale. It has all different genres represented so make sure to browse through it. The other is a clean, wholesome mystery in honor of my mom, even though she does prefer cozy mysteries. :)
Book Blurb:
There's nothing worse than getting shot … unless you are forced to shoot your attacker.
At least that's what police officer Katelyn Ashford thought before her fiancé tried to attack her at her own wedding. She never thought she'd become a runaway bride. Even worse, she woke up in the stranger's bed in a place she'd never been.
Is it the worst thing to ever happen to Katie or the best?
As head of security for one of the biggest pop stars in the Pacific Northwest, former Army medic, Logan Anthony has seen his fair share of damsels in distress. Even though he's not the soldier he was before his injury, there's something special about this tough but fragile woman that brings out his protective instincts.
Katie knows she has to put the pieces of her life back together. She and Logan make a formidable team. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to escape Katie's frightening past.
If you enjoy a clean and wholesome mystery combined with a stubborn damsel in distress and a dedicated wounded warrior, you'll love Pieces, the seventh book in the Hidden Hearts series.
I hope you have a wonderful week and I will write to you next week.
Hugs,
Allie
My daughter and I used to sort and price books with the volunteer group who sell used books to support our local public library. These volunteers were their own best customers. My husband finally decreed that we had to donate as many books as we acquired each week unless we had some kind of magic capability to expand our home's book storage capacity.
