Her words shook me to my core. ‘If you were a better date, I wouldn’t wander.’ One of my ex-girlfriends had said something similar when I found her in bed with my college roommate. I knew I wasn’t boyfriend material. I knew it for years, but to have this woman whom I have known for a little over a month to say it, stung.

Erin walked a few steps away before stopping and turning around. Her forehead wrinkled as she studied me. She sighed and rolled her eyes heavenward before coming back to me.

“I thought you were in such a hurry to dance?” She stood in front of me and tapped her toe. “They are clearing out the area for the dance floor…Kaleb?” She touched my arm, jolting me back to the present.

I shook my head, blinking down at her.

“Where did you go?”

“What?”

“You were lost in thought.” She ran her hand down my arm to grasp my hand. “I thought we were dancing.”
