My tie constricted my throat. The tuxedo tightened across my shoulders. Levi paced around the room with his tuxedo jacket thrown over his shoulder. His face pinched into worry. His polished black cowboy boots squished on the carpet.

“Man, calm down.” I handed him a tumbler with two fingers of amber liquid.

He took it from me, carried it around the living room and left it on the mantle of a silent fireplace. A bead of sweat rolled down from his temple.

“Everything will be fine. Katie is excited to marry you.” I leaned against the wall.

“I wish we were eloping.” He wiped at the bead of sweat. “This is all too much.” He lapped the room again.

“Why did you go along with the big wedding?” I walked over to his tumbler and sniffed the whiskey.
