Hi Dear Reader,
How are you doing? I hope your June is going great. I can’t believe that it is already the 12th.
My Big News!
June marks my third year anniversary of being an author. I am going to be doing a drawing to give away 2 signed paperbacks of Falling for my Cowboy. To enter the drawing, answer the following question:
What has been your favorite book to read so far this year?
You can hit reply and email me or put your comment down below. The drawing is open until June 26th. Good luck!
Life News
The other weekend, the Minnesota Cutting Horse Association held their show at our county fairgrounds. Hubby and I took Baby Bock. It was a lot of fun. She enjoyed the horses, cows, and tractors.
At the event, a herd of young, about a year old, cattle were brought into a small arena. One at a time, the competitor would ride the horse in the arena. The rider would pick out the cow that might be the best match for the horses. Then, the team would “cut” or move the cow away from the herd. Now, cows are herd animals and always want to be with the rest of its friends. This is when the exciting part would start. The cow would duck and dive to try to get passed the horse. The horse would match the cows moves. The horse leaped forward, slid to a stop, spin around on its hindquarters, and stare down the cow. The competitor would sit against the back of the saddle, letting the horse work. They were done if the buzzer sounded, if the cow got around the horse to the herd, or if the cow stopped. It was fun to watch the riders that were in tuned with their horses. I might have to one of my characters be into showing horses. 😉
Writing update:
I am almost done with My Cowboy of Convenience. I have a few more edits and then to run it through a grammar checker. It has been so fun to share the journey with you and I appreciate all the feedback. Don’t worry. I’ll still keep posting chapters.
Book Recommendations
This is book was a fast and very sweet read. It is set in the late 1950s, I think. If it is noted in the book, I didn’t catch it. Sadie is home from college for spring break. She is helping her mom run their boarding house/bed and breakfast in rural Oklahoma. She is studying business and is excited to make a mark in this world. Then, Sam shows up on her doorstep, looking for a place to stay while he works on his Master’s program in an agronomy related field (plants, soil, farming). The romance is very sweet. It starts with a few stolen glances and some quick touches. Then, it progresses to walks and hanging out at the porch. This book will give you all the cuddly feels. I really enjoyed the story. It did wrap up in a happy-for-now with a promise of the future. It had light inspirational themes and clean and wholesome.
I didn’t get to read too many books in the month of May. This was one of the few. It is a traditionally published book, and you should be able to find it online, at the library, or even in the used bookstore. That’s where I found my copy. It is a clean read with a lot of tension. I would put it towards a romantic suspense. I enjoyed once I got into the story, which took a couple of chapters. Livie finds out that she is pregnant, but she is not sure if the father is her fiancé or a strange man she met one night when she was stranded. She can’t remember what happened that night and thinks she might have been raped. (That’s the part that made me almost put the book down.) Once you get passed that part, the book picks up steam. She has to navigate the treacherous waters with her fiancé when he finds out her secret. Is their love strong enough to stay afloat? It is tested even more when the stranger is found dead, and the fiancé is arrested for murder. Will Livie be able to clear her fiancé’s name? It has a satisfying ending and is a clean read.
That’s all I have for this month. I’ve been able to read more already in June so I’ll have more recommendations next month! Don’t forget to comment or email with your favorite read so far this year!
Hugs,
Allie
