Hi my dear reader,
Happy Mother’s day to those with human children and fur babies. I hope your weekend was gorgeous.
How are you this week? Anything new with you? Have you read anything good?
It is almost midnight here and the house is quiet for once. Usually, I think about what I want to write the week ahead of time, but this week was a roller coaster. There was the good stuff at work and some not so good stuff. Such is a life of an equine veterinarian. But I was tired and didn’t know what to write.
Then I came across this article.
It reminded me of a lovely horse that I worked with this week. My client had bought this horse to go to Texas for a big sorting competition and we were getting her feeling the best she could, which means getting correct shoes on her and relieving any pain in her body so she can be the athlete that she is.
Below is an Youtube video of a trainer explaining training a ranch sorting horse. I thought it was interesting watch.
And here is an actual sorting to give you an idea what a competition looks like.
The sorting horses are usually Quarter Horses and are bred similarly or like a cutting horse. I have a soft spot in my heart for cutting horses since the ranch Hubby and I used to work at raised and showed cutting horses.
Typically, they are on the smaller side, around 14 hands or so. A hand is 4 inches. 14 hands is 56 inches at the top of the withers. Most of them are very sweet and “born broke”, which means that they are easy to train. It is fun to watch them work a cow. Next weekend, the Minnesota Cutting Horse Association will be holding an event at our local fairgrounds. Hubby and I enjoy going and watching the horses work. I’ll definitely share pictures with you.
Writing update
I’m almost done with the first draft of Cassandra and Trevor’s story. I’m pretty excited about that. It feels like the homestretch. I need to fill in the plot holes and tie the story together. Then, it will be on to editing it.
I do have a book sale today that my ebooks are in. Check it out! There are tons of other sweet/clean romance titles in it!
That’s all for this week. Talk to you next week. Hugs,
Allie
